Mission 1148 - Archerfield to Chinchilla

Background

On Tuesday the 1st of August 2006 I flew Mission 1148, making it my 42nd Angel Flight.

The mission descriptions from Angel Flight was:

SUBSEQUENT FLIGHT REQUEST: (130th Angel flight)

Fifteen year old Kayla from Chinchilla who had a failed kidney transplant and is now back on home dialysis.

However she still needs to receive medical treatment at the PA Hospital?s Dialysis Unit (Brisbane) three times per week.

I had previously carried Kayla on Mission 224 in December 2004, Mission 668 in November 2005 and Missions 975 and 1013 in May and 1038 in June 2006

A friend, Rob Gunter, who had accompanied me on my first Angel Flight was coming along for the ride as well.

Leg 1: Archerfield to Chinchilla - A breath of fresh air

I was just meeting up with Rob when Earth Angel Sue Stubbs turned up to drop of Pam and Kayla.

We proceeded post haste to the aircraft and all strapped in. The weather was perfect again and we launched 5 minutes early into the afternoon skies with the sun directly ahead. The in-flight conditions were smooth and about an hour and 10 minutes later we touched down in Chinchilla.

The only noteworthy event was the passenger window, on Kayla's side, popping open about 10 minutes into the flight. But a quick tug on the handle allowed me to shut it again. Having been exposed to the rushing wind, Kayla for the first time did not even think about sleeping during the flight. The picture at left, taken after touch-down in Chinchilla, shows that she was none the worse for wear.

Kayla and Pam again made use of my jelly beans as we headed west and they perused their high-brow literature.

Leg 2: Chinchilla to Archerfield

Having disgorged our passengers, Rob and I were in the air again about 10 minutes after touch-down.

We climbed an altitude of 9,000' and enjoyed the view out the windshield. With the now sun behind us, we could actually see things on this leg.

We touched down on runway 10L as the sun touched the horizon behind us. Rob stayed around to help me tidy up and tie down the plane allowing us to head home for dinner a few minutes later.

Summary

We were back on the ground in Archerfield after having
