Mission 1872 - St george to Archerfield

Background

On Tuesday the 15th of May 2007 I flew Mission 1872, making it my 62nd Angel Flight.

The mission description from Angel Flight was:

INITIAL TRIP REQUEST:

An eight month old boy from St George recently had a minor injury. There is concern after this injury that he may have a bleeding disorder.

The mother and child must travel to Brisbane for investigation and tests as it is unavailable anywhere closer.

Archerfield to St George

For an 9:00 depature out of St George, with an 8:30 arrival I had to be airborne just before 7:00. Since I also had to refuel the plane, as well as do the pre-flight inspection, I had to get up before sun-rise.

On the way out to the airport it was already light and low fog abounded. However by the time I lined up on runway 28 for my departure just a minute or two after seven, it was all gone. The flight to St George was smooth and un-eventful with nary a cloud about. I touched down at St George just after 8:30 to find Nichole already waiting for me with Zac.

This being his maiden flight, Zac was only too happy to take delivery of his Angel Bear, and, much to his mother's dismay, immediately started to chew on it.

St George to Archerfield

The flight back, at 9,000' was again smooth, wiht just a smattering of cloud as we crossed the Amberley control zone on descent. Zac spent most of his time sleeping. While anxious flyer Nichole was breathing easy at the lack of perceived motion.

We touched down at 10:37 and shut down at 10:40 - right on time - as Earth Angel Daniel Kennedy emerged from the terminal building to take Zac and Nichole into his care.

Angel Flight pilot Alan Kushin would be taking them back home, with a projected arrival time of 5pm. Had they left home by car when I picked them up they would not even have arrived in Brisbane at that time. With Angel Flight they were already back home.
