Mission 2620 - Archefield to Theodore

Background

On Thursday the 7th of February 2008 I flew Mission 2620, making it my 83rd Angel Flight.

The mission description from Angel Flight was:

INITIAL TRIP REQUEST:

An eighty year old man from Theodore has been diagnosed with ischemic heart disease. He has had a pacemaker implanted as well as valve replacements.

He is required to attend specialist appointments in Brisbane for ongoing treatment and review.

Archerfield to Theodore

Earth Angel Robina Kelly dropped Roy off a little early - I was still doing my pre-flight inspection when they arrived. But I soon had Roy aboard and we got airborne 10 minutes before schedule.

The weather was scattered cumulus with the occasional building cumulus nimbus. I managed to avoid most of these, but still we had the occasional bump prompting Roy to ask which shire was responsible for the pot holes.

After one hour and forty minutes I had difficulty spotting the runway at Theodore - but only because it was right under the aircraft. A little waggle of the wings soon showed the windsock and we landed on runway 35.

Welcome to Theodore

The welcoming committee consisted of Juanita and Juanita. The former being Juanita Goodland, nurse at the local hospital, member of the local Lions' club and Earth Angel, and the latter being Juanita, Roy's wife. Apparently there are four Juanita's in town (population 454).

Juanita Goodland also presented me with some press cuttings describing some previous trip to Theodore.

Return leg - Theodore to Archerfield

Having left Roy in Juanitas' capable hands, I headed back south to the big smoke.

I again had to fly around a few minor storms, and, this time having a bit of a tail wind, arrived safely in Archerfield, proving once again that any odd fool can fly an aeroplane.
