Mission 3813 - Archerfield to Roma

Background

On Monday the 2nd of February 2009 I flew Mission 3813, making it my 111th Angel Flight.

The mission descriptions from Angel Flight was:

INITIAL TRIP REQUEST: This young teenager has ovarian cancer and has been undertaking multiple trips from rural QLD into Brisbane

This has caused financial hardship for the family and she has also missed 2 days of school on each trip. She travels this time for a specialist appointment.

Archerfield to Roma

I was en-route to the airport, when Michelle's mother Trish called to say that they had already arrived. So ten minutes later I said hello to them in the terminal building before heading outside to wake up the plane.

With the tanks filled up, the wings counted and a propeller detected at the front, I declared the aircraft ready for flight and put my two charges aboard.

We climbed out of Archerfield and turned west into a layer of cumulus cloud that would be our companion for most of the trip. About an hour and a half later we lined up for a straigh in approach on Runway 36 and landed without further ado.

Trish and Michelle bade me farewell as I headed back off to Archerfield.

Roma to Archerfield

This time I could spend most of my time above the layer of cumulus and only had to descend through it on the way into Archerfield, where I affected the second landing of the day on runway 10L at exactly sunset.
