Mission 3849 - Archerfield to Roma

Background

On Friday the 27th of February 2009 I flew Mission 3849, making it my 113th Angel Flight.

The mission descriptions from Angel Flight was:

SUBSEQUENT TRIP REQUEST - (4th and 5th Angel flights):

This lady, battling breast cancer, continues her course of chemotherapy.

To travel over 8 hours by road to attend her chmo sessions would be well beyond her physical endurance.

Archerfield to Roma

Sometimes you really have to wonder why you do what you do. On the tuesday I had gone to the trouble of doing a check-ride to renew by instrument rating so that I could continue to fly in bad weather. But, of course, the day of this flight was absolutely perfect with nary a cloud in the sky.

Earth Angel Ian Osborne dropped Heather off a little early, which in turn meant that we could blast off a bit earlier than planned.

With us sitting above the inversion layer conditions were smooth and we chatted amiably as we waited for the hour and a half to elapse before we somehow afforded a landing at Roma, where Heather's husband was already eagerly awaiting her arrival.

Roma to Archerfield

The previously pristeen skies were now filled with a deck of cumulus that continued to build up, so much so, that I had an oppurtunity to put the autopilot's instrument rating to use at last.

I was home before lunch, ready to go to work for the rest of the day.
