Mission 4051 - Archerfield to Cunnamulla

Background

On Friday the 8th of May 2009 I flew Mission 4051, making it my 115th Angel Flight.

The mission description from Angel Flight was:

SUBSEQUENT TRIP REQUEST: (3rd & 4th Angel flights)

Our twelve year old patient has mild cerebral palsy and balance problems. He returns to the RBH for a post surgical review following achilles tendon surgery. He then attends specialist physiotherapy classes.

The mother needs to have her younger son with her and the prospect of a bus journey of over 11 hours, via Toowoomba, is extremely daunting. She has to take time off work for the appointments and so cutting down the travelling time and fatigue would greatly assist her.

Leg 1: Archerfield to Cunnamulla

Earth Angel David Metcalfe dropped Cody and his mum Valerie and little brother Lucas off a little early. He helped me carry the bags and Lucas to the plane while Valerie escorted Cody across the tarmac to my plane.

With everything stowed we headed for the clear skies toward the west. The flight was smooth and, judging by my passengers' reaction, quite boring - they slept most of the way.

Leg 2: Cunnamulla to Archerfield

The local refueller was already waiting for me. She was a friend of the family and her daughters were soon racing each other and Lucas across the tarmac. Before too long the local 'air terminal' became the scene of more horseplay.

I left every one thus engaged as I turne the nose of the plane whence it had come and climbed to 9,000' on the way home.

About 3 hours later I was back on the ground tying down the plane at Archerfield.
