Mission 4669 - Goondiwindi to Toowoomba

Background

On Thursday the 12th of November 2009 I flew Mission 4669, making it my 120th Angel Flight.

The mission description from Angel Flight was:

SUBSEQUENT TRIP REQUEST: A man from Boggabilla has a needs to attend the Toowoomba Hospital for oncology treatment.

A long road trip would cause him significant discomfort and financial pressure, Angel Flights will help him to access this vital treatment.

Archerfield to Goondiwindi

The weather forecast was for fine conditions with unlimited visibility and I was not to be disappointed. Taking off from Archerfield just before 10 in the morning I first headed south for Laravale VOR and then more or less due west to Goondiwindi.

I lined up for a straight-in approach to runway 22 and effected a touch down after a little over an hours' flight.

Goondiwindi to Toowoomba

Peter was already waiting for me and came ambling down the path toward the plane even before I had shut it down. Being a seasoned Angel Flight passenger, the safety briefing could be kept mercifully short.

Not being as sprightly as yours truly, Peter took the back seat which is a lot easier to get into than the front, as you can much more easily step down.

We headed north east directly toward Toowoomba at 7,000' and only encountered one little rough patch before, despite my best navigation, Toowoomba hove into view. We landed on the hump on runway 11 and taxied over to the terminal building.

Earth Angel Kathy Bird was already waiting and quickly brought her car around right next to the gate. Before too long Peter was ensconced on the front seat ready to head off to Hospital.

Toowoomba to Archerfield

Having farewelled Kathy and Peter, I fired up the engine again took off toward Archerfield, transiting the Amberley control zone and passing almost right over the top of the air base itself along the way.

I touched down at Archerfield some twenty five minutes after leaving Toowoomba.
