Mission 4727 - Archerfield to Tara

Background

On Tuesday the 24th of November 2009 I flew Mission 4727, making it my 121st Angel Flight.

The mission description from Angel Flight was:

SUBSEQUENT TRIP REQUEST: (5th & 6th Angel Flights): This lady has been attending oncology appointments to determine the suitability of radical surgery for renal cancer.

She has been called back to Brisbane for diagnostic medical imaging to aid in this process. The specialist nature of this consultation is not available in her local area and road transport would be most uncomfortable.

An Angel flight will remove serious stress from her at this most difficult time.

Archerfield to Tara

This was a maiden flight for my son Max. He had been badgering me for a while to come along on a flight. This being only a short one hour flight each way, I thought this would be the perfect trip to introduce him to Angel Flight. I duly picked him up from school and he helped me ready the plane.

Earth Angel Richard Stephenson arrived a little early with Patricia, so we were able to get away a little early too. Max sat next to me in the front on a little booster seat while Patricia made up the numbers in the rear. We soon climbed through the de-activated Amberley air space to 10,000' where we had a trouble free cruise.

Unfortunately shortly after commencing our descent we hit a few minor bumps that proved to be a little too much for Max' delicate intestines.

We were unable to locate a rubbish bin at the terminal building, so the local SES crew (which apparently meets all flights into Tara) kindly accepted a somewhat unusual donation from us, promising to dispose of it in an environmentally friendly manner.

Tara to Archerfield

Max posed in front of the aeroplane before we headed back west. He spent most of the time in cruise sleeping, only to wake up as we approached Archerfield for a straight in approach for runway 10.

Max again proved a useful helper, organising head-sets, the GPS, tie-down ropes and the cover, making the usual post flight ritual a lot shorter than usual.

By the time we headed for home it was dark, and Max still reckoned that it was a good day!

Summary

We were back on the ground in Archerfield after having
