Mission 5095 - Inverell to Archerfield

Background

On Thursday the 18th of March 2010 I flew Mission 5095, making it my 133rd Angel Flight.

The mission description from Angel Flight was:

SUBSEQUENT TRIP REQUEST: A twenty-two year old woman now living in Inverell suffering from a Neuro Movement Disorder needs to attend a hospital in Brisbane for on-going treatment.

An Angel flight will help alleviate the stress a long trip by road would impose.

I had previously flown Maggie and her mum Leslie in October 2008

Archerfield to Inverell

Seeing that Maggie and Leslie had to be picked up at 8:45 NSW time (7:45 real time), I had to get up at the crack of dawn and was airborne out of Archerfield at 6:10, heading south toward beautiful skies.

It looked like I was going to be stuck between a rock and a hard place; The forecast gave me a chance of fog that was likely to persist until 9:00, while a NOTAM tole me that the main runway would be closed for 2 hours, from 8:45 to 10:45 for "Exercises".

As it turned out, I arrived at about 8:20 with no fog in sight. Proving the strength of the Beechcraft products yet again, the Bonanza survived my hamfisted thrust onto terra firma in one piece.

Maggie and Leslie and as well as dad Peter were already waiting for me.

Inverell to Archerfield

I had Leslie and Maggie quickly loaded aboard the aircraft, bade farewell to Peter and and we managed to get airborne at 8:37 - just before the assembled troops from the local constabulary would seize the airfield for their "exercise".

The flight north was in mostly clear conditions, with us only having to descend through a wispy layer of cloud as we approached Archerfield. Maggie dozed for most of the way, while Leslie chatted away.

We arrived a little over and hour later at Archerfield, landing on runway 10R. After a few minutes of taxiing I handed my charges over to waiting Earth Angel Richard Stephenson for the perilous journey to the hospital.
