Mission 5098 - Archerfield to Grafton

Background

On Monday the 29th of March 2010 I flew Mission 5098, making it my 134th Angel Flight.

The mission descriptions from Angel Flight was:

SUBSEQUENT TRIP REQUEST:

A nine year old girl from Blaxlands Creek (near Grafton) has kidney failure and is on home automated peritoneal dialysis.

Due to the stress of the dialysis her cardiac condition is worsening and she now requires Haemodialysis three times a week at the Royal Childrens Hospital in Brisbane

I had flown Rebecca and her Mum before on Mission 4761, Mission 4770, Mission 4792 and Mission 4900 This time, I again would only be taking them home, another Angel Flight pilot earlier in the day.

My partner in aviation, David James, had flown them home on the Friday just past. Always keen to do a bit more flying he joined me on this flight up front.

David and I both turned up at the same time and had the plane pre-flighted in short order.

Earth Angel Miriam Houwelling dropped off her charges right on time. With Rebecca and Kylee being old hands at the flying caper by now, we had them boarded and ready for departure before too long and headed off down south for Grafton. There was a little bit of cloud about, but this cleared out once we got to about Casino. Then it was plain sailing.

I touched down with a little tailwind on runway 18. David did the honours of getting Kylee and Rebecca's luggage out of the back while I stayed in the cockpit. It was thus about 4 minutes after shut down that the engine was running again and we taxied for home.

Grafton to Archerfield

The flight back home was just as un-eventful as the flight down. Dave and I spent most of the time playing with our new GPS and trying to figure out how to get the most out of it.

A little over an hour later we touched down on runway 10L at Archerfield and refuelled, and tied down the aircraft.
