Mission 5212 - Toowomba to Charleville

Background

On Friday the 11th of June 2010 I flew Mission 5212, making it my 137th Angel Flight.

The mission description from Angel Flight was:

SUBSEQUENT TRIP REQUEST: (16th & 17th Angel flights)

A sixty five year old woman from Wyandra (near Charleville) has had chemo treatment for Breast Cancer at Toowoomba Hospital. This flight is for her 3 monthly review

Archerfield to Toowoomba

I did the pre-flight planning in the sun under a beautiful clear sky. The forecast called for strong winds aloft, but contained no reference to turbulence. So things were looking good.

I was soon on my way for the short 30 odd minute flight to Toowoomba where the local circuit traffic, putting discretion before valour, quickly landed and vacated the airspace as I approached for a straight in landing on runway 29.

Karma and her husban Philip were already waiting for me.

Oakey to Charleville

Having loaded the bags in the bag, shown Philip and Karma, should the need arise, how to get away from me in a hurry. We all boarded and headed out west. Philip sait next to yours truly, while Karma was happy enough to nap a little in the back by herself.

The forecast winds did indeed slow us down by some twenty knots or so, but it was as smooth as a baby's bottom. So it took almost 2½ hours to get to Charleville, where the wind was light and we managed to affect a touchdown on runway 30.

I helped my passengers unload and prepared to put some fuel into the tanks of the aeroplane.

Trip back home

Having put some 168l of AvGas into the tanks, drained my own bladder and refuelled on a decent meat pie, I fired up climbed out to 9,000'.

With the wind pushing me along this time, I was soon cruising along at 180 odd knots, making Archerfield in less than 2¼ hours, where I landed in the dark.
