Mission 6184 - Hervey Bay to Archerfield

Background

On Thursday the 24th of March 2011 I flew Mission 6184, making it my 157th Angel Flight.

The mission description from Angel Flight was:

INITIAL TRIP REQUEST:

An eight year old boy from Hervey Bay has Leukaemia and needs to travel regularly to Brisbane for treatment.

The family have been managing up to now however finances and work commitments are now seriously stretched. Angel Flights will help alleviate the stress and pressures they are facing.

Archerfield to Hervey Bay

I had to rise with the sparrows this morning, but was rewarded with a stunning sun-rise as I flew up the coast toward Harvey Bay.

It was all smooth sailing, and before too long Fraser Island and Hervey Bay hove into view.

There were two other aircraft departing as I arrived, so I had to extend my downwind leg a little.

Taxiing up to the agreed rendevous point, I saw three and not the two agreed upon passengers waiting for me behind the fence. A kind sould from the aeroclub opened the gate for us, obviating the need for a 600m walk.

With Douglas, his dad Martin and the aforementioned stow-away, Ted, settled in the back row, we taxied for take-off and blasted off into the sky, toward the south.

A little over an hour later the aircraft homed in on its normal resting place and we thus managed to find Archerfield, where kind Earth Angel Seton Porter took them into his care.
